GCSE Science

There are two routes:

• Combined Science (AQA Trilogy): biology, chemistry and physics across two GCSEs, giving every pupil a full grounding in all three.
• Separate (Triple) Science: three GCSEs, one each in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with more depth for pupils with a strong interest in science.

Across both routes, pupils cover biology, from cell biology to inheritance and ecology; chemistry, from atomic structure to the use of resources; and physics, including energy, electricity, forces and waves. Substantial practical work runs throughout.

Science is assessed by written examinations at the end of Year 11, with required practical work built into the course to link theory to real experiments. Combined Science leads to two GCSE grades, and Separate Science leads to three.

Triple Science gives strong preparation for A-Level Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and for the STEM pathway in the Expansive Curriculum, where Kingsley holds the Space Education Gold Quality Mark. Science opens routes into medicine, engineering, healthcare and research. Sixth Form scientists can also draw on the Top Universities Programme for medicine and Oxbridge support.

Science is core, so every pupil takes it. Pupils choose between the combined and triple routes with guidance from their teachers, based on their interests and their plans for Sixth Form. The best way to see the labs and meet the department is to book a visit.
