Pupils explore three themes:
- Identity and culture
- Local, national, international and global areas of interest
- Current and future study and employment
Lessons include speaking practice, role-plays, translation and written composition, and pupils are encouraged to carry a language through to GCSE.

How it's assessed
French is assessed by four exams, each worth 25%: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Pupils are entered at either Foundation or Higher tier.
Where it leads
Where it leads
French supports progression to further language study in the Sixth Form and beyond, and it strengthens university and international pathways. Pupils can also take up Spanish as a second modern language.
