Life in Longfield starts with pastoral care. Houseparent Mr Craig Knowles and the house team know every boy, so he always has an adult to turn to, whether he needs help with a worry, a reminder about the week ahead, or simply someone to talk to at the end of the day. New boarders are welcomed as members of the Kingsley Family from their first evening.
The high standard of pastoral care helps boys understand how their actions affect others, and the house team’s first job is to make sure every boy feels safe, known and cared for, whatever his starting point.

A rhythm the boys quickly come to know
Meals are shared together, which is often where friendships form and the house feels most like a family. Weekdays run from a 7:00am start to supper at 6:00pm, followed by leisure time and the house’s recreational facilities.
Every new boarder is paired with a buddy from day one, so arriving boys have a friendly face and someone their own age to show them how things work. At weekends the boys join trips to the Devon coast, local beaches and national parks, and Bideford Cinema in the school theatre shows the latest films at no extra charge.

Who can board in Longfield House?
Longfield is the boys’ boarding house at Kingsley, home to boys in Years 7 to 13 and looked after by Houseparent Mr Craig Knowles and the house team. Girls board separately in Belvoir House.
Is Kingsley a boys’ school?
No. Kingsley is co-educational, and boys and girls share lessons and the wider life of the school. Boarding is the part that is single-sex: the boys live in Longfield and the girls in Belvoir.
