A focused morning, and an afternoon that makes learning stick
The teaching day is split into two parts. Mornings are given to Core lessons in 45-minute sessions, where pupils cover the academic and vocational subjects that lead to their GCSE and BTEC grades. Afternoons open out into longer Expansive Curriculum sessions, giving time for the deeper, practical learning that shorter periods cannot hold.
This shape keeps the GCSE curriculum focused and well paced in the morning, while the afternoon gives room for the pathways, projects and applied work that make learning stick. Pupils carry the confidence they build in the afternoon back into their Core subjects.

Built for a fully inclusive, non-selective school
Classes are small, teaching assistants work alongside teachers in lessons, and every pupil has an individual laptop. Gifted and talented pupils are stretched with harder material and independent work, while pupils who need more support get it in the room, as they learn.
This is how achievement follows engagement at Kingsley: pupils who feel supported take part more fully, and taking part is what lifts results. Kingsley is also Devon and Cornwall's only CReSTeD-accredited school, recognised for its provision for pupils with dyslexia.

Do you offer BTEC and vocational courses?
Yes. Alongside GCSEs, pupils can take BTEC, NCFE, Cambridge National and ASDAN qualifications, including Engineering, Food & Cookery, Sports Science, Health & Social Care, Surfing and Climate Change & Environment.
How are options chosen?
Every pupil studies English, Maths and Science, alongside PE and PSHE, then chooses any three option subjects from across STEM, the arts, languages and humanities, the Earth Centre and vocational courses. Art can be taken as a fourth subject through the Expansive Curriculum, and teachers who know each pupil well guide the choice.
