Performance is a timetabled part of the Expansive Curriculum

Every pupil in the Performing Arts Academy works toward their Arts Award certificate, and many go on to achieve Silver and Gold Arts Awards in Years 10 to 13. The awards give structure to a pupil’s development and something recognised to show for it.

Music

From first lessons to graded exams

Individual instrumental and singing lessons prepare pupils for ABRSM grades, and a full set of ensembles gives them somewhere to play together. Groups meet on a timetable rota and at lunch or before school, so there is a place for every level and instrument.

Drama and theatre

Inclusive by design

The annual Senior School musical is open to all year groups, and pupils perform at the Arts Centre Theatre Festival and in termly small-group theatre, monologues and duologues. Pupils can take LAMDA qualifications.

Those drawn to the wings take on technical roles in sound, lighting, set design, props, make-up and costume. The most recent production was Fame!, and the highlight of the year on stage is the annual whole-school show.

Progression and awards

From early participation to external accreditation

Pupils climb the Arts Award ladder from Bronze to Gold, take ABRSM grades in music and LAMDA in drama, at a school that holds the Artsmark Silver Award. Along the way they gain the cultural capital and confidence that feed everything else they do, in line with the Better Me, Better World agenda.

No experience is needed to join in, and the results speak for those who take it further: in the 2026 GCSEs, Music and Drama results placed in the top 3% nationally.
