GCSE Engineering

Engineering at Kingsley is a GCSE-equivalent course, the Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Award in Engineering, taught in Years 10 and 11. It suits pupils who enjoy problem-solving, design and hands-on making.

What you'll study

Three units cover the theory and practice of engineering:

Unit 1: The Engineered World, covering sectors, manufacturing processes, materials and renewable energy
Unit 2: investigating an engineered product
Unit 8: designing and building electronic circuits

How it's assessed

Unit 1: online exam (25%)
Unit 2: coursework (25%)
Unit 8: coursework (50%)

Most of the qualification is coursework, built from practical projects across the two years.

Where it leads

Engineering opens progression to Level 3 engineering and technical study and wider STEM pathways. It sits within the STEM strand of the Expansive Curriculum, recognised by the Space Education Gold Quality Mark, and pairs well with Science, Mathematics and iMedia.

How to choose it

Engineering is chosen during the GCSE options process in Year 9, with guidance from tutors and subject staff. To tour the workshops and meet the team, book a visit.
