Children develop knowledge and skills in numeracy and literacy, drawn together through topic-based learning that keeps the day varied and connected. The Core Curriculum gives every child solid foundations in literacy, numeracy and STEM, enriched by programmes such as robotics that build creativity, collaboration and confident problem-solving.
Lessons are differentiated and highly engaging, adapted to each child so that support and challenge sit side by side.

Learning at Kingsley moves outdoors across our 24 acres of fields and woodland, with the coast around us shaping the day. Through the Surf Academy embedded in the curriculum, children begin surfing from Year 1, building water confidence step by step.
Regular swimming lessons take place at Northam Swimming Pool. Kingsley was the first school in Europe to fully integrate surfing into education, and surfing sits within our Coastal Adventures under Outdoor Education.

Pre-Prep classes are small, inclusive and non-selective. High-quality support is part of everyday classroom practice, and for children who need more, our Connect Centre offers specialist provision within a nurturing setting.
Kingsley is Devon and Cornwall's only CReSTeD-accredited school, recognised for its work with dyslexia and additional needs. Wellbeing runs through each day, and we are proud holders of the Wellbeing Award for Schools. Mainstream children and those with additional needs learn side by side and thrive together.

Frequently asked questions
What year groups are Pre-Prep?
Pre-Prep is Years 1 and 2, for children aged five and six. It follows Nursery and Reception in the Early Years and leads into Prep from Year 3.
How do you teach reading and phonics?
Reading and writing are taught every day through structured, differentiated lessons, and woven into topic-based learning so children use them across the curriculum. Our specialist provision is there for any child who needs extra help.
What subjects do specialists teach?
