Food & Cookery (NCFE Level 2)

This food and cookery course at Kingsley is the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Food & Cookery, taught across Years 10 and 11 after Food Preparation and Nutrition in Years 7 to 9. It suits students in the Kingsley Family who love cooking and want to build real practical skill while understanding the science and provenance behind the food they prepare.

What you'll study

The course develops practical cooking skills alongside nutrition, food provenance, and the working characteristics of ingredients. Core areas include:

  • Food and nutrition and health
  • Food science
  • Food safety
  • Food choice
  • Food provenance

A strong grounding in food safety and hygiene runs through the whole course.

How it's assessed

The qualification splits roughly evenly between practical cooking tasks and written work, in line with the current NCFE Level 2 Food & Cookery specification.

Where it leads

Where it leads

The course progresses to the Sixth Form Level 3 AAQ in Food Science and Nutrition (WJEC), and opens routes into hospitality, catering, and nutrition careers.
