What you will study
Year 12 builds the core foundations:
Year 13 moves into more advanced ground:
- particles and radiation
- waves and optics
- mechanics and materials
- electricity
- fields (gravitational, electric and magnetic)
- nuclear physics
- an optional topic such as astrophysics
How it is assessed
Assessment is by written examination. Across the course you complete twelve required practicals, and the skills they develop are assessed within the written papers.
Where it leads
Physics is required for Physics and Engineering degrees, and Russell Group universities often also ask for A-Level Further Mathematics. It opens routes into engineering, technology, data and research. Pairing it with A-Level Mathematics and A-Level Further Mathematics builds the strongest STEM applications, supported by the Top Universities Programme and the guidance set out in the Sixth Form Welcome.
