What you will study
The course covers the USA between 1917 and 1996, Indian Independence from 1917 to 1948, and Britain's imperial history from 1763 to 1914. Across these periods students trace how rights were claimed and contested over time.
How it is assessed
Alongside written examinations, students complete a 4,000-word individual investigation. They interpret the work of historians and evaluate three interpretations of a chosen question, building the research skills that essay-based degrees reward.
Where it leads
History opens degrees and careers in history, law, politics, journalism, heritage and the civil service. It pairs well with A-Level English Literature, a combination many universities look for in law applicants. How to apply
