The subject combines well with all subjects and pairs naturally with A-Level Art.
- shooting in varied lighting conditions, with attention to angle, composition, depth of field and focusing
- black-and-white darkroom work
- digital editing in Adobe Photoshop
- experimental techniques leading to enhanced images and 3D installations
How it is assessed
Year 12 is a Personal Investigation, a sustained practical response supported by written work. Year 13 is an Externally Set Task, a 15-hour practical assessment. Both are internally assessed and externally moderated.
Where it leads
Photography opens degrees and careers in photography, film, media, graphic design and the wider visual arts. How to apply
Entry is GCSE Art grade 6 if the subject has been studied, or assessment of a portfolio. Book a visit to tour the darkroom and studio and meet the department.
