A-Level Chemistry

Year 12 builds the foundations:

Year 13 adds thermodynamics, transition metals, advanced organic synthesis and spectroscopy.

• atomic structure and bonding
• energetics and kinetics
• periodicity
• the basics of organic chemistry

You complete twelve required practicals, six per year, in fully equipped laboratories. These contribute to the Practical Endorsement and are assessed within the written papers.

Chemistry is required for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering degrees, and for most Medicine programmes when combined with Biology. It opens careers in medicine, pharmacy, engineering, research and industry, pairs naturally with A-Level Biology, and sits alongside two further A-Levels and the EPQ.
