Kingsley School Devon is delighted to announce that we have been awarded the prestigious Artsmark Silver Award by Arts Council England! This achievement is a testament to our unwavering commitment to embedding arts, culture, and creativity across our school community.
The Artsmark Silver Award recognises the strides we have taken to enhance arts education across both Kingsley Prep and Senior Schools. Over the past two years, we have worked diligently to raise the profile of the arts, despite challenges such as staffing changes and financial constraints. Our dedication has led to the creation of new Director of Music and Director of Art roles, bringing greater cohesion and enrichment to these subjects across the school.
Kingsley has made significant progress in expanding its music and performing arts programmes. Some of our key achievements include:
Prep School: Establishing a thriving string ensemble, made possible with the support of the PTA.
Senior School: Growing our choir to 31 students, along with the introduction of a Modern Music Ensemble and Chamber Group.
LAMDA Programme: Increasing participation from 7 to 24 students.
Inter-School Collaborations: Partnering with a neighbouring school for a music festival, giving students opportunities to perform to wider audiences.
A key highlight of our Artsmark journey has been empowering students to take an active role in shaping the arts at Kingsley. Our Arts Council and Art Ambassadors contribute to various creative projects, helping to develop play scripts, musical repertoires, and artistic initiatives. Year 6 pupils have also stepped up as leaders within the arts curriculum, taking responsibility for inspiring younger students.
While we celebrate this incredible achievement, we are excited to continue building on our success. As we embed the Artsmark Silver, we will:
Further develop our arts and cultural curriculum to ensure a progression of skills and knowledge.
Explore ways to support non-specialist arts staff through enhanced CPD programmes.
Creative career awareness by inviting industry professionals to share insights with our students.
We are incredibly proud of this accomplishment, led by Head of Performing Arts, Mrs Jemma Cringle, and grateful to our staff, students, and wider Kingsley community for their passion and dedication to the arts. A huge congratulations to all involved.
