Mr Pavis' Video Newsletter: Fri 16th October

‍

This week’s newsletter marks the end of our first half term of the year. We held a celebrations assembly at the start of the week to catch up on the many student achievements of the past half term, and my message is the same as always: there are so many opportunities at Kingsley for everybody to get involved. Turn up, get involved, do your best, and the rewards and achievements will follow.

‍

We saw that last Sunday with the first outing of our Ten Tors groups, who completed a Tarka Trail walk to get their feet used to the challenge ahead. The full training programme runs over the coming months in preparation for the event next May.

‍

It’s been a very busy week of girls’ and boys’ rugby, with a particular mention to our 1st XV, who won their second round National Cup game against Mount Kelly. It was a fantastic game, and well done to everybody who played. In my eyes, everyone was player of the match. Today, students from Year 3 all the way up to Year 11 are at the Stephen Shield cross-country event in Torrington. Good luck to all those running, and we look forward to the results later today.

‍

I personally really enjoyed the Prep School Harvest Festival in the theatre yesterday afternoon, where we made a generous donation of foodstuffs to Harbour charity. That reminds me that our students collect donations for local food banks and charities every week. Simply bring in tins or dried food to reception, where there is a collection point just behind the desk, so we can keep supporting local charities.

‍

Talking of local charities, don’t forget that 6 November is our alternative fireworks night: the Sony Lumiere Laser and Music Spectacular we ran last year. We’ve upped the game again this year, so it promises to be 2.0 in every respect. Tickets are limited, so if you haven’t yet bought yours, please go online and purchase them ahead of 6 November.

‍

Over the last few weeks we’ve held two open days and an open evening last night, welcoming over 100 families to the school. A massive thank you first to all our teaching and support staff, who put in so much work and gave up extra time in the evenings, late into the night, to make these events such a success. Even more importantly, thank you to our students. Pupils from Years 9, 10 and 11, along with Years 12 and 13 at the open evening and open days, were incredible ambassadors, acting as guides and helping with car parking, welcoming, drinks and receptions. They are a credit to the school and to their families at home, and it’s warming to see the Kingsley family come together in this way.

‍

We’re now all ready for the half term break, so do enjoy it, look after yourselves and stay safe. Year 11 and Year 13, mocks are coming up after half term, so I hope you can spend some time over the next two weeks preparing.

‍

Have a great break, everybody. I look forward to seeing you all after the holiday. Thank you.
