Welcome to this week’s video newsletter from Kingsley School!

We begin with sport, where our talented judo students brought home gold, silver and bronze medals at the South West Tournament held here on site — a brilliant achievement. Our U16 and U18 rugby teams also competed this week in the National Cup. While both teams were narrowly defeated by strong sides from Taunton and Plymouth College, their resilience and determination were outstanding, and we’re proud of every player. Looking ahead, our girls rugby team takes on Bideford College on Tuesday, while our senior netball squad begins their tournament season at West Buckland — good luck to all involved!

We’re also excited to announce the opening of the new Edgehill Café, located in our Sports Hub. Open to parents, families and students during school fixtures, club evenings and weekend matches, the café offers coffee, tea, cakes and cookies — perfect for enjoying alongside the action.

It’s been Languages Awareness Week across the school, filled with delicious French breakfasts, German cuisine, tutor group activities and quizzes. Some of our students are currently on a cultural visit to Barcelona, with more heading to Paris this weekend — a fantastic opportunity to experience language learning in action.

Meanwhile, our focus on literacy continues to grow, with the launch of our Accelerated Reader programme across the entire school, from Reception through to Sixth Form. Our library is being stocked with new books, and visiting authors have been inspiring students as part of the Appledore Book Festival — building a love of reading and writing for all ages. Huge thanks to Miss Richards for leading this exciting initiative.

And finally, don’t forget that next Thursday is our Welcome Back Concert in the theatre — a wonderful evening of music and drama showcasing some of Kingsley’s most talented performers. We hope to see many of you there.
