Mr Pavis' Video Newsletter: Friday 12th September

Welcome to this week’s video newsletter from Kingsley School, filmed from a rather special location — the Head’s garden! This week, it played host to the Great Year 7 Apple Pick of 2025, where students gathered crates of apples to be juiced over the coming weeks using the school’s cider press. (Not real cider — just delicious fresh juice!)

In school, assemblies focused on important reminders around uniform and appearance, including a request for support from parents in discouraging chewing gum, which can cause unwanted mess around the school.

On the sports front, we’re thrilled to report that the Kingsley Venner's Eagles netball team secured their first win in the North Devon League — congratulations! Following the success of England’s women in the summer football championships, girls’ football trials for u12s to u16s were held last week in collaboration with FC Devon. Anyone who missed it but is still keen to join should speak to Mr Ward.

And history was made as our senior rugby team played in the National Continental Tyres Schools Cup for the first time — and won their first-round match against Truro School, 20–19! They’ll face Plymouth College in the next round.

This weekend, we’re off to Sandy Park to support the women’s team in the Rugby World Cup — best of luck to them as they aim to build on the summer of women’s sport!

Elsewhere, Putsborough claimed victory in the always-popular “It’s a Knockout” competition — the first house event of the year and a key part of our Charles Kingsley Wellbeing Cup challenge.

Finally, we’re honoured to welcome actor Martin Clunes to Kingsley this evening to open the Appledore Book Festival. He’ll be presenting his latest book and taking part in a special launch event at our theatre.
