Mr Pavis' Video Newsletter: Friday 10th October

This week’s video newsletter comes to you from the bridge between the library and the theatre — now transformed into an informal exhibition space celebrating the arts. Yesterday, Alfie treated us to a lunchtime performance as part of our regular ‘On the Bridge’ concerts, and this afternoon we host our annual Inter-House Shout — a joyful, high-energy music competition where students represent their house in song. It’s all part of Kingsley’s commitment to wellbeing, expression, and mental health through the arts.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in rehearsals for Mary Poppins, including those who gave up their Saturday to rehearse. We can’t wait to see it brought to life later this year. On the sports fields, we welcomed athletes from across the county for the BREMCO Cross-Country hosted here at Kingsley. Special mention to Henry (9th), Iva (8th), and Lily (9th) for their standout performances.

Our judoka were in action again — congratulations to Mia on her gold medal and Dexter on his silver. And for the first time ever, we entered Kingsley teams into the English Schools FA Cup at senior, Year 7, and Year 8 levels. While we didn’t progress to the next round this year, it marks an exciting new chapter in our football journey, powered by the support of FC Devon. The future’s looking bright.

The rugby teams had a busy week too. A big win for our seniors against Shebbear, and a strong performance from our U14s in the National Cup against Ivybridge, who just edged the victory. Our Year 9 netball team also impressed in their inter-schools tournament — playing up in the A league despite some injuries and still securing some strong wins.

Beyond sport, many of our students took part in the UKMT National Maths Challenge — we’re looking forward to seeing those results come in and celebrating the achievements with certificates later this term. Key assessments continue across the school this week and next, so a reminder to all students to keep accessing Firefly resources and stay focused ahead of grade reports being sent home next Friday.

Finally, don’t forget about our spectacular Laser Light Show taking place on the first Friday after half term. Priority tickets are available now for Kingsley families. This will be unlike anything we’ve done before — created by the same team that worked on Kylie Minogue’s tour. Please book your car parking early, or better yet, walk if you can.
