Mr Pavis' Video Newsletter: Friday 9th October
This week’s newsletter comes to you from the bridge, straight after a fantastic evening of entertainment in the theatre next door. Our artists have been displaying their work, while our musicians and thespians sang, danced, acted and performed at the Welcome Back concert. The talent on show was incredible, with absolute passion and confidence from everyone involved. Really well done to all for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Year 11 were visited for a careers talk by Natalie Bray, and we thank her for coming in to speak to the students. In Year 7, our Community Wild Meat Workshop takes place today, with a second session for parents and the wider community this evening. It’s part of our UNESCO sustainability goals agenda, helping students understand where food comes from and how it’s prepared, and there are more of these to come over the following weeks.
In sport, our judoka were in action at the Welsh Open last weekend, with another well-done to Willow. We also came home as first-place winners of the Kazoku Trophy, with 12 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronzes. We hosted the Bremco Cross Country, where 17 Kingsley students took part in the North Devon event and Henry M was a standout runner in second place. Our senior netballers drew their North Devon League game, while our Under 14s had a tough day at the North Devon Schools Tournament, but well done to everyone who took part.
Our Under 15 girls’ rugby team beat Bideford College 5-4, with Lily named player of the match. It was as much a training and community exercise as a fixture, and we’re grateful to Bideford College for the collaboration. Many of the players also train and play week in, week out at Bideford Rugby Club, and between the two schools and the club we’re paving the way for women’s rugby in the South West. Our senior footballers lost a nail-biting 5-4 National College League game against Exeter College, with Zach player of the match. Our Under 14 rugby team were beaten by a very strong Plymouth College side in the National Cup, with Jacob player of the game.
Looking ahead, this weekend our judoka compete at the British Masters competition and the Peninsula Schools competition in Plymouth. Our boarders are off paintballing, wild swimming and enjoying a sauna, which sounds very relaxing indeed. It’s also the first Ten Tors training weekend, so good luck to everyone heading out on Sunday.
Next week is action-packed, with a whole school open day on Monday and our Sixth Form Open Evening on Thursday, which is already looking pretty full. We look forward to welcoming many prospective parents and families.
Have a restful weekend, and I’ll see you again next week. Bye for now.
