Mr Pavis' Video Newsletter: Friday 7th March

Hello and welcome to this weeks video newsletter

This week at Kingsley, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve once again made it to the finals of the Business Education Awards for our sustainability and environmentalism initiatives. This recognition highlights the incredible work being done through our Earth Centre curriculum, which offers unique opportunities from Key Stage 3 through to EPQ projects in the Sixth Form. Mr Harty and Miss Turner will be heading to London later this term in hopes of securing another win!

We celebrated World Book Day this week, with students dressing up as their favourite book characters and a Drop Everything and Read session bringing the whole school together in a love of literature. A huge thank you to Miss Marquet-Georgiou for making it such a special event.

In academics, our Year 11 geographers returned from an unforgettable field trip to Slapton Sands, you can read more about it here, and our Year 7s have begun preparations for the North Devon Robotics Competition on March 26th. Last year, Kingsley were placed second—can we claim the top spot this time? Meanwhile, Year 8 students are finalising their Astro Pi Mission Zero coding projects, hoping to see their work sent to the International Space Station! In further STEM success, Mia earned bronze and Kate won gold in the UK Biology Olympiad, with Kate now advancing to the IBO selection round for a chance to represent the UK in the Philippines.

In music, Sophie (Year 7) performed with the Project Midlands Orchestra, and Thomas (Year 12) has been playing the organ at St. Mary’s Church in Bideford. We’re also looking forward to the GCSE Drama and Music performances next Tuesday, 11th March—everyone is welcome to attend!

On the sports front, our judoka excelled in the Inter-Schools Judo Tournament, with Fletcher, Willis, Dylan, Dexter, and Louis securing gold medals, Mia, Austin, Otis, and Theo earning silver, and Aries, Jackson, and Jacob taking bronze. Our Under-13 rugby sevens team finished second in the Devon County Cup, and our Under-13 footballers had a mixed set of results in their Inter-Schools tournament, winning two, losing two, and drawing one.

This weekend is a huge one for national finals! Our gymnasts will compete in the Milano National Finals in Stoke, our judoka will be in action at the National Judo Finals in Sheffield, and our cross-country runners will take part in the ISA National Finals at Mallory Park in Leicestershire. Good luck to all of them!

Finally, today is National Employee Appreciation Day, and we want to say a huge thank you to our incredible staff. Their dedication, passion, and commitment make all of these successes possible, ensuring that our students have access to life-changing opportunities.

Enjoy your weekend, and we’ll see you next week!
