Being based in Devon, we have easy access to some of the UK’s most diverse and dynamic coastal landscapes. From dramatic cliffs and sandy beaches to estuaries and rural communities, our students can study coastal processes, erosion, and land management strategies in a real life setting. This means that rather than just learning about longshore drift, wave-cut platforms, and managed retreat in textbooks, they can see and measure these processes first hand - a huge advantage for developing critical thinking and fieldwork skills.
During the Slapton residential, students explored coastal geomorphology along the breathtaking Start Bay coastline, investigating the impact of longshore drift, coastal erosion, and coastal defences on the local area. They also carried out a rural quality of life study, allowing them to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and benefits of living in a rural community, another vital topic in the GCSE Geography curriculum.
Mr Whaley praised the students for their excellent behaviour and engagement, making the trip a real success. From conducting fieldwork and analysing data to working collaboratively in teams, our students demonstrated fantastic enthusiasm and curiosity throughout.
Of course, no Kingsley residential would be complete without some good fun along the way! From taking in the stunning coastal views to enjoying time together as a group, this trip was a fantastic mix of education, adventure, and teamwork.
A huge well done to everyone involved—what a fantastic way to bring geography to life and make the most of our incredible Devon landscape!
