The NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Sport Outdoors (Surfing) at Kingsley provides an academically rigorous yet practical pathway for students with a strong interest in surfing and outdoor learning. Delivered through a coastal context, the course develops theoretical understanding alongside applied skills in participation, leadership, safety and evaluation within surfing and outdoor activity settings.
This qualification is designed for learners who wish to develop their knowledge and practical competence in surfing and coastal activities. Teaching and assessment are contextualised through surfing, skateboarding and coastal-based activities, allowing students to apply core sporting principles in authentic environments.
The course is structured around four compulsory units:
Learners plan, organise and participate in sporting activities, developing an understanding of rules, fair play, teamwork and performance review.
Learners explore the organisation of outdoor activities, health and safety requirements, risk assessment and environmental considerations, alongside the development and review of practical outdoor skills.
Learners develop the knowledge and skills required to plan, support and review outdoor activity sessions, including supervision, communication, emergency procedures and reflective practice.
Learners produce detailed session plans, deliver activity sessions appropriate to participant needs, and evaluate outcomes using feedback to improve future practice.
Alongside the core qualification, learners may have the opportunity to work towards additional, industry-recognised awards, including the RLSS Beach Lifeguard, Surfing England Level 1 Instructor, and Skateboarding GB Level 1. These qualifications are optional and subject to suitability and readiness, with the intention to deliver them in-house where possible. This provides valuable practical experience and supports progression into employment or further training within sport and outdoor industries.
The qualification is coursework based, assessed through written tasks, practical application and reflective evaluation. It supports progression into further study while also developing the skills, confidence and experience required for vocational pathways in sport, outdoor education and coastal industries.
