Today marked a truly historic and memorable occasion, as Kingsley School proudly hosted the ISA Southwest Tag Rugby Tournament for the very first time. With U9 and U11 teams from across the region joining us, the school grounds buzzed with excitement, determination, and sportsmanship, even as the weather delivered classic November conditions: wet, windy, and wonderfully muddy.
Despite the challenges, Kingsley pupils shone throughout the day. Across 26 fiercely contested matches, every single player demonstrated outstanding resilience, courage, teamwork, and enthusiasm. Whether experiencing victory, defeat, or a hard-fought draw, our pupils represented Kingsley with pride.
U9 Tournament Highlights
The U9 category saw both Kingsley A and Kingsley B teams competing through challenging group stages and into their respective finals.
Kingsley A produced determined performances throughout the group phase, securing wins against St Joseph’s and Kingsley B, a draw against Shebbear, and narrow losses to Trinity and Polwhele House.
Their resilience paid off when they met Trinity again in the Plate Final, this time emerging victorious with a thrilling 6–5 win, earning 3rd place overall.
Kingsley B battled bravely against strong opposition, facing tough matches against St Joseph’s, Polwhele, Trinity, and Kingsley A. They qualified for the Shield Final, where they again demonstrated determination but fell short against St Joseph’s.
They secured 6th place overall, showing admirable courage and teamwork throughout the tournament.
The U11 delivered some of the most exciting rugby of the day, with both Kingsley teams showcasing skill, pace, and fantastic team spirit.
Kingsley A – Cup Finalists (2nd Place Overall)
Kingsley A’s group stage was impressive, featuring decisive wins against St Joseph’s, Shebbear B, Polwhele House, and Kingsley B, a draw with Trinity, and just one loss to Shebbear A.
Their brilliant effort took them all the way to the Cup Final, where they faced Polwhele House once more. In a nail-biting match, Kingsley narrowly missed out, finishing 6–7, achieving a superb 2nd place overall.
Kingsley B – Shield Finalists (6th Place Overall)
