Kingsley Rugby Academy Scholars Shine at County Level

Devon U18 Call-Ups for Sam Bola & Jonson Tuhakaraina | Exeter Chiefs Trial for John Davenport

The Kingsley Rugby Academy is proud to announce that two of its Sixth Form scholars, Sam Bola and Jonson Tuhakaraina, have been selected to represent the Devon U18 County Squad following two highly competitive trials.

This achievement is a significant milestone for both players and a testament to their hard work, character, and the high-performance environment cultivated at Kingsley. Their selection places them among the top young talents in the region and reinforces Kingsley’s growing reputation as a leading force in school rugby.

Shortly after his county call-up, Sam was also handed his senior debut for Bideford RFC’s First XV, where he delivered a confident and physical performance that impressed both coaches and supporters.

Kevin Booth, Bideford First Team Coach, shared:
“Sam stepped up seamlessly. The partnership with Kingsley continues to bring through talented, well-coached players who are match-ready.”

Tom Skelding, Director of Rugby at Kingsley, added:
“We’re hugely proud of both Sam and Jonson. Their county call-ups are a clear sign of what can happen when student-athletes are supported holistically. Our partnership with Bideford RFC, combined with the structure of our Academy, is really beginning to show results.”

Next Up: Exeter Chiefs Trial for John Davenport

In further exciting news, Year 11 student John Davenport, a powerful and dedicated front-row player, has been invited to trial for the Exeter Chiefs Player Development Group (PDG). Originally from Houston, Texas, John has impressed since joining Kingsley with his physical presence, coachability, and desire to improve.

Although his initial trial was postponed, John is now scheduled to attend in early December.
“John is showing tremendous growth,” says Skelding. “To be recognised to trial with the Chiefs is a huge step. We’re excited to see how he progresses.”

A Culture of Aspiration and Progression

Sam and Jonson’s current involvement in representative rugby highlights just the beginning of what’s to come. As Kingsley’s Rugby Academy continues to grow, we are excited to see more male and female scholars progress into county and professional pathways.

Supporting this vision is the recent appointment of former England international Amy Garnett, who has joined Kingsley to support the continued development of female rugby at the school. As England’s most-capped hooker and the first English woman to reach 100 caps, Amy brings elite-level experience, leadership and passion for the women’s game – a transformational addition to the Kingsley Rugby Academy.

These developments reflect the Academy’s broader mission: to nurture both players and people through a values-led, performance-driven approach. With consistent coaching, strong club partnerships and a holistic curriculum, Kingsley is creating a pathway for student-athletes to thrive.
